Collection: MELON
Juicy, sweet and fruity, the synthetic melon note adds a wave of aquatic freshness to perfume compositions. Sweet but not overpowering, the scent of melon is as refreshing as it is mouth-watering.
Melon is an annual herbaceous plant with long, vine-like stems and is part of the cucurbit family, meaning it is related to pumpkins, gourds, and even cucumbers. With a wide range of geographic origins, it's no surprise that so many varieties exist, including Charentais, cantaloupe, and Galia. As with many other juicy fruits, it is not possible to obtain an essential oil through extraction, but it is reproduced using laboratory techniques such as headspace.
The thick-skinned melon has a long history, with origins in India and the African deserts, and was cultivated in Egypt as early as 500 BC, when it was a small, not very sweet fruit. The Greeks and Romans were fond of it and ate it with salt and pepper. It was not until the 15th century that it evolved into the large, sweet fruit we know today. The cantaloupe variety was brought to Europe from Armenia by Italian monks who cultivated it on their property in Cantalupo. Shortly after, it arrived in the southeastern region of France.
